After spending ten years teaching in the Bahamas, I came back, in 1988, to Ottawa to take a position as a computer science and mathematics teacher. In 2001, I became involved with the Glebe Robotics team, mentoring them for 14 years. In this capacity I have been involved with FIRST Robotics, IEEE LEGO robotics, Ontario Skills Robotics and VEX Robotics. The Glebe Collegiate Robotics team, under my mentorship has done well. We qualified twice and participated, once in the VEX World Championships. I, personally have volunteered as a Referee for the VEX Worlds in Anaheim, California in 2014 and in Louisville, Kentucky in 2015 and 2016.
Retiring from teaching in June of 2013, my passion for robotics and helping students to pursue careers in STEAM education, is what has prompted me to start ProBots Ottawa. I hope to reach a far greater number of students allowing them the opportunity of discovering the world of robotics. I am currently the Canadian Robotics Education and Competition Regional Support Manager (RSM) for VEX Robotics Competitions. This role allows me to provide robotics classes only during the summer.
I hold Bachelor Degrees in Science and Education and a Masters Degree in Computer Science Education and was part of the evaluation committee for the Ontario Technology Curriculum.
I am currently serving on the Board of Directors for CanSTEAM, a not for profit, charitable organization dedicated to advancing Robotics in Canada,
